Norman Manea Celebration at Romanian Academy Library

On Monday, May 23, the Romanian Academy Library hosted a special anniversary marking, in advance, the 80th birthday of Norman Manea, one of the most celebrated Romanian contemporary writers, who is also a Fulbright alumnus.
The event, titled “Norman Manea – A Life”, brought together prominent cultural figures, from Romania and elsewhere, the likes of Gabriela Adameșteanu, Nora Iuga, Mircea Martin or Antonio Muñoz Molina, to name just a few, all coming together to celebrate the life and work of a world-acclaimed novelist and essayist.
Living in the U.S. since 1986, Norman Manea is currently the Francis Flournoy Professor of European Culture and writer in residence at Bard College. He won several international honors and distinctions, including the MacArthur Fellows Award (1992), the International Nonino Prize (2002) and the Nelly Sachs Prize (2011), as well the title of “Commandeur dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres” awarded by the French Government (2011).

Fulbright-Schuman Scholar Gives Talk at Harvard University on EU-U.S. Energy Relations

Alexandra-Maria Bocşe, Fellow on Transatlantic Relations at Harvard University and Fulbright-Schuman Grantee, gave on 6 May 2016 a talk at the Belfer Library, Harvard Kennedy School on "The U.S. and European energy security: recent developments". She argued that the 2014 Ukrainian crisis generated a renewed U.S. interest in European security in general and European energy security in particular. The talk discussed the impact that US shale gas exports, as well as the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, might have on the energy security of the EU. It concluded that, although great progress in transatlantic cooperation on energy was achieved so far, additional work needs to be undertaken to implement high level political commitments taken in 2014 by officials on both sides of the Atlantic. The talk was very well received by the public. Alexandra is currently conducting research at Harvard on energy governance and EU-U.S. interactions in the field of energy.
