Romanian – U.S. Fulbright Commission & FEAC-EducationUSA at RIUF 2016 in Iaşi and Timişoara

The Romanian-U.S. Fulbright Commission and the Fulbright Educational Advising Center/FEAC-EducationUSA were represented once again this year at the Romanian International University Fair (RIUF) fall editions in Iaşi and Timişoara. We took this opportunity to acquaint potential applicants with the Fulbright grants for Romanian citizens, as well as the services offered by FEAC-EducationUSA.
An average 400 visitors stopped by our booth in Timişoara and Iaşi, eager to learn more about the undergraduate and graduate application process and financial aid opportunities in the United States. Several voiced a genuine interest in applying to a study program in the U.S., either independently or via a Fulbright grant.

FEAC-EducationUSA Team Connects with High Schoolers in Iaşi and Timişoara

As is already tradition, during our stops in Iaşi and Timişoara, the FEAC-EducationUSA team delivered presentations aimed at high schoolers interested in U.S. study opportunities, kindly hosted by the American Corners in these two cities. Students from some of the finest high schools in Iaşi and Timişoara were provided with useful information on the American education system and how to best approach the application process, and encouraged to keep in touch with the FEAC-EducationUSA team via online advising. We also took this opportunity to announce the launch of the competition for the 2017 Opportunity Funds program, designed to help exceptional students from underprivileged backgrounds cover application-related costs.
Fulbright-EducationUSA friend Eliza Chirilă, National Director of the American Councils for International Education local office, also joined us for the presentation at the American Corner in Timişoara, providing high schoolers and teachers with information on the FLEX program, which enables top Romanian high school students to study one year in the U.S., with all costs covered.

Fulbright-EducationUSA Team Promotes Grants & Graduate Study Opportunities in Iaşi and Timişoara Universities

We took advantage of our presence in Iaşi and Timişoara, October 3 through 6, to deliver presentations in four top Romanian universities – “Gheorghe Asachi” Technical University of Iaşi and “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iaşi on October 3 and 4, followed by the West University of Timişoara and Politehnica University of Timişoara on October 5 and 6.
This afforded us the opportunity to spread the word about the Fulbright grants for Romanian citizens, including the newly launched hyphenated Fulbight-RAF Scholar Award, as well as independent graduate study opportunities. Several of the attendees voiced their interest in joining the competition for either a Fulbright Student or Senior Award.
For the presentation at the West University of Timişoara (UVT) we were delighted to be joined by Fulbright Ambassador Cristina Chevereşan, Associate Professor within UVT’s English Department, who kindly agreed to speak about her personal experience as a Fulbright Senior grantee at Harvard University, back in 2010.

FEAC-EducationUSA Takes Part in the New 2016-2017 RIUF Edition

FEAC-EducationUSA kick-started its October activities with a 2-day participation in the Bucharest edition of RIUF (Romanian International University Fair). Our team distributed informational materials and talked to hundreds of fair visitors about the Fulbright Award Program as well as the variety of study options at the undergraduate level. We were glad to see an uptick in the number of graduate students interested in pursuing master’s level and doctoral programs in the United States. We were equally pleased to introduce the new Opportunity Funds program and to encourage high school students and their parents, as well as graduate students, to take advantage of the comprehensive advising services provided by our team, free of charge and open to all those who wish to prepare for undergraduate and graduate studies in the United States.

The Amoeba Game

We are very pleased to announce Tara Skurtu’s collection of poems entitled The Amoeba Game has been selected for publishing by the British Eyewear Publishing. The volume will be released in Autumn 2017.

As Tara tells us, “One section of the book consists of poems about Romania, and the very first title of the first poem is a Romanian word. I would not have been able to get this book finished and accepted for publication without my Fulbright time.” See more at http://www.eyewearpublishing.com/blogs/news/eyewear-publishing-acquires-tara-skurtus-the-amoeba-game
