News from Romanian Fulbrighter Iulian Toader

“In April I had the opportunity to attend the Annual Graduate Student Conference of the Cold War, organized by LSE, GWU and UCSB. This year, the conference was organized by the George Washington University in Washington D.C. I remember that three years ago, when I began my doctorate on Cold War history, I was thinking how great it would be to attend such a conference and to disseminate my research findings. With the help of the Fulbright program, the possibility became reality. My paper Romania’s Westpolitik and European security: A reconsideration (1969-1975) was well received and I was encouraged to publish it in a peer-reviewed journal. I also had the opportunity to meet colleagues studying the Cold War from all across the world and to create a global network of young Cold War historians. Suffice it to say that I have also received great feedback on my ideas from some of the most well-known professors on Cold War history.
As my stay in the U.S. comes to an end, I am starting to look back at how great this year has been thanks to the Fulbright program. Besides my academic activities, I had the chance to make new lifetime friends from more than half of the countries of the world and to experience the best ‘flavors’ of the American culture.”
