Metropolitan Chrysostomos

It is with deepest sorrow that we learn about the repose of Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Etna Emeritus, Executive Director of the Romanian-U.S. Fulbright Commission in 2002-2003 and a Fulbright Scholar in Iasi and Bucharest in 2000-2001.

He will be always remembered by the Fulbright community in Romania for his dedication to Fulbright values, for his wise, graceful, passionate and constant presence and deed.

If you are thinking of applying for a Fulbright Student Award or working on a graduate application for the U.S., join us for the essay writing workshop on March 5. James and Ioana, who enthusiastically accepted to guide you in this inspiring adventure, are looking forward to meeting and working with you all. You will discuss together components of strong essays, analyze excerpts from successful Fulbright applications, and consider which skills or qualifications to highlight in your texts. The workshop will also cover topics concerning tone, language and style for effective essay writing.

University of Akron Rep Connects with Romanian Students in Bucharest

University of Akron representative Jennifer Dixon visited Bucharest this past week to connect with Romanian high school students. The Fulbright Educational Advising Center-EducationUSA team was happy to lend a hand in her outreach efforts.
On February 18, we accompanied our guest to “I. L. Caragiale” National College, where an average 70 students (mainly 10th and 11th graders) gathered to hear the presentation, eager to learn more about studying in the U.S. in general and UAkron in particular.
Our guest delivered an engaging presentation on study and networking opportunities at the University of Akron (Ohio), highlighting UAkron’s rich academic offering, the various forms of financial aid available and its vibrant campus life.
We took the opportunity to tell participants a few words about the resources awaiting them at FEAC-EducationUSA and ways we can help them prepare strong applications to universities in the U.S.

Dr. Nicolae Filipescu

We commemorate with respect Dr. Nicolae Filipescu, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, who passed away on February 15, 2019. He was a U.S. Fulbright Scholar in Romania in 1993 and was awarded the Romanian National Medal for Merit for his work in medicine, teaching and for his dedication and support in forging close ties between the United States and Romania.

Using Entrepreneurship to Address Social Problems

On February 21st, from 4 p.m., Dr. Roger E. Hamlin, Professor Emeritus at Michigan State University and a Fulbright Scholar at Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, will give a lecture titled “Using Entrepreneurship to Address Social Problems: Theory and Stories from Around the Globe” at the Faculty of Sociology and Social Work, University of Bucharest (Council Room, 9 Schitu Măgureanu). “While entrepreneurs struggle during this precarious phase of implementation it seems a difficult time to involve the community. Yet, it is often the best time to experience the 2-way benefits of community support and engagement.”
