NYU Abu Dhabi and FEAC Reach Out to I. L. Caragiale Students

On Thursday, October 20, the Fulbright-EducationUSA (FEAC) adviser and Andrea Vagi, NYU Abu Dhabi outreach officer connected with students at “I. L. Caragiale” National College, one of the most prestigious high schools in Bucharest. Speaking to an audience of 40+ students from 10th and 11th grades, Ms. Vagi talked about the diversity of programs and educational experiences at NYU Abu Dhabi, alongside information about the application process and about the two Romanian students already enrolled at this institution. The FEAC adviser took the opportunity to speak about the Opportunity Funds program already under way, encouraging the students to take advantage both of this new type of application support and of the advising services and resources provided for free by the Fulbright-EducationUSA advising center located just 5 minutes away from I. L. Caragiale” National College.

NYU Abu Dhabi and Fulbright-EducationUSA at St. Sava National College

On Tuesday, October 18, the Fulbright-EducationUSA advising team accompanied Ms. Andrea Vagi, NYU Abu Dhabi outreach officer, in a joint project of reaching out to the students of St. Sava National College. Around 30 students attended a presentation of study opportunities offered by NYU Abu Dhabi, encouraging well-qualified applicants to apply for a remarkable experience in the American educational system, with a liberal arts curriculum, study abroad opportunities and generous financial aid resources. The Fulbright-EducationUSA adviser talked to the students about the advising services provided by the Fulbright-Educational Advising Center and about the new round of Opportunity Funds scholarships, aimed at highly qualified but financially disadvantaged students who wish to study in an American university.

HBS/HKS Information Session in Bucharest

Harvard Business School and Harvard Kennedy School, in partenership with the Romanian-U.S. Fulbright Commission, kindly invite you to a presentation of their programs, scheduled to take place on Friday, October 21, from 3 pm to 5 pm, at the Fulbright-EducationUSA Advising Center. This event is designed for prospective students to learn about Harvard Business School and Harvard Kennedy School from a student and alumni perspective. The event will include a presentation and the opportunity for Q&A with alumni. Fulbright Presence at the Law Faculty, University of Bucharest

The protection of secured creditors in lending transactions, movable and immovable property, comparisons between the U.S. and Romanian legislation are part of the subjects Professor Samuel Bufford, from Pennsylvania State University, will be teaching this semester at the Law Faculty in Bucharest and which he introduced to Romanian students as part of the class on security interests. It is part of a valuable dialogue and imparting of essential information on legal matters between American and Romanian specialists in this field. 

The Past and the Present

Two of the new U.S. Fulbright Scholars to Romania recently presented papers at the 15th International Conference on Language, Literature, and Cultural Policies hosted by the University of Craiova. Following the conference's theme "The Past in the Present," Dr. Rick St. Peter of Clemson University and currently assigned to Craiova gave the opening keynote address about the Broadway musical Hamilton entitled "The Ten Dollar Founding Father: Lin-Manuel Miranda, Alexander Hamilton, and the Continuing Revolution of America." Later in the afternoon, Dr. David McTier of Sam Houston State University and currently assigned to Bucharest presented a paper entitled "SHqIP: The Vietnam Project," which chronicled his experience directing at the National Theatre of Kosovo during his first Fulbright grant.
