WHO: The Romanian-U.S Fulbright Commission and EducationUSA invite you to the second edition of the “U.S. Alumni Fair”. This year, the event will also mark the 55th anniversary of the Fulbright Program in Romania.

WHY: U.S. Fulbright grantees and U.S. Embassy members, alumni of major American universities, will come together as proud representatives of their alma maters, ready to act as your guides on an exploration of the American college experience.

National Conference and Workshop: ”Lifelong Learning in Action, Sibiu”, Nov 19-20

Organized within the context of the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) initiative, in collaboration with the Romanian-U.S. Fulbright Commission and with the generous support of the Romanian Ministry of Education, the conference entitled ”Lifelong Learning in Action: The university, employers, trainers and the community working together” aims to highlight the importance placed on continuous learning and re-training throughout the working lives of graduates and adult learners in Romania and the vital joint role that universities, colleges and employers must play in developing and supporting opportunities for continuous professional development (CPD) in the country.

Fulbright Alumnus Receives “Gordon C. Oates Air Breathing Propulsion” Award

As a Fulbright Student grantee in 2011, Ciprian Dumitrache received a Master’s degree in the field of Aerospace Propulsion Systems at Georgia Institute of Technology, the Aerospace Engineering Department. An alumnus of the Fulbright program in Romania, Ciprian is now earning a doctoral degree in mechanical engineering at Colorado State University. This year he was granted the “Gordon C. Oates Air Breathing Propulsion” award, for his research related to air breathing propulsion, by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). The award is open to graduate students conducting research related to combustion or fluid mechanics of aircraft engines. Can a Feminist Dance the Tango?

A “modest provocation” launched by Kathy Davis from Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam and Co-editor of The European Journal of Women’s Studies. The event is taking place in Cluj (see http://pages.ubbcluj.ro/acris/2015/10/28/public-lecture-can-a-feminist-dance-the-tango/) and the speaker is introduced by Janice Irvin, Professor of Sociology at University of Massachusetts and Fulbright scholar at the Faculty of European Studies, Babes-Bolyai University.

The Global Leadership Forum for Hubert H. Humphrey Fellows

Ioana Tamas, 2015-2016 Hubert H. Humphrey fellow, participated in the Global Leadership Forum held in Washington D.C. this past October. The event, whose main theme was Climate Change, was attended by 166 Humphrey grantees from all across the U.S. Ioana, the only Humphrey grantee in the field of Cultural Policies present at the event, met people from 95 countries from 4 continents and had numerous opportunities to talk to other grantees working on projects with a focus on tangible cultural heritage, urbanism and human rights - fields that frequently intersect the cultural policies area. Ioana attended the reception organized in honor of the participants by the U.S. Department of State and the Institute of International Education, hosted at Benjamin Franklin Hall, the U.S. Department of State.
