Professor Adina Ciugureanu at Columbia University

Professor Adina Ciugureanu, “Ovidus” University, Constanta is the recipient of the second Fulbright grant in 2017, at the University of California Santa Barbara. In this capacity, she held a conference on Ovid, the Latin poet, whose death, 2000 years ago, is commemorated this year, at Columbia University, New York and Arkansas State University-Beebe, as part of the OLF program. Her lecture, entitled, “The Legacy of Ovid, the Latin poet, on the Black Sea Region” was concerned with Ovid’s poetry written during his exile at Tomis and with its influence on the literature of the region, in general and on Romanian literature and culture, in particular. The talk was meant to familiarize the American students with the Latin roots of the Romanian language and with the 19th century Romanian reading of Ovid’s exilic poems in the larger context of Eastern Europe history and culture.
