East Carolina University & “I. L. Caragiale” National College Students Meet Online through Fulbright-EducationUSA

On Thursday, November 3, Romanian and American students met online for a one-hour class hosted by the Office of Global Understanding & Global Academic Initiatives at East Carolina University and the Fulbright-EducationUSA Advising Center (FEAC). The intercultural exchange class was an initiative launched by East Carolina University and involved holding a discussion class in which students had an opportunity to ask questions about each other’s social-cultural practices and worldviews. It came as no surprise that young students from both sides of the Atlantic shared similar interests in global popular culture, but the class also provided an opportunity for students to exchange opinions about career prospects, parental pressures, social expectations and detailed explanations of daily schedules and academic activities. The Romanian students also took the opportunity to ask about application procedures, the availability of scholarships, major and minor fields. The discussion class was preceded by a presentation about the pathway to studying in the United States, delivered by the FEAC team to the 10th and 11th grade students in attendance.
