EAAS Conference in Constanta

The 2016 European Association for American Studies Conference, including among its participants 400 academics from over 40 countries, took place at Ovidius University, Constanta, between April 22nd and 25th. The opening address from the part of the U.S. Embassy was given by Mr. Dean Thompson, Deputy Chief of Mission, who spoke about the growth of American Studies in Romania and the Romanian-American partnership in the field of culture and education.

The Romanian-U.S. Fulbright Commission, a major factor in the development of American Studies in Romania, was as always involved and present on this occasion. Representing the host country, Prof. dr. Rodica Mihaila, Executive Director of the Commission, delivered the first keynote lecture entitled “‘Things like this aren’t supposed to happen in America.’ Sites of Worlding in the Post-9/11 Novel”. The Romanian-U.S. Fulbright Commission was also represented by current American grantees - Tunde Adeleke, Iowa State University, Rebecca Bosshart, University of Nevada, Las Vegas and Lindsey Appell, University of Utah – as well as by an impressive number of Romanian alumni of the program.
