The Fulbright SIR Program 2016: Opportunities for Teaching at U.S. Universities and Colleges

The Fulbright Scholar in Residence (SIR) program (http://www.cies.org/sites/default/files/documents/SIR-Flyer-2015-16.pdf) offers opportunities to non-U.S. visiting scholars from different countries, including Romania, to teach at U.S. colleges and universities for one or both semesters of one academic year. The Visiting Scholars in the SIR program are expected to contribute to the internationalization of the programs and campus, assist with the development of curricula and faculty and support initiatives meant to diversify student and faculty experiences.

The SIR program targets U.S. institutions that do not have a strong international component and belong to one of the following categories: historically Black colleges and universities, Hispanic-serving institutions, tribal colleges, community colleges, small liberal-arts institutions.

The U.S. institutions of higher education intending to invite a Romanian visiting scholar within the SIR program should submit proposals to the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES) in Washington D.C., by October 15, 2015. In their proposals, institutions call for scholars who are expected to carry out a variety of activities, including teaching classes, giving guest lectures in other classes, as well as making public presentations at community organizations.

The Romanian scholars interested in participating in the Fulbright SIR program are encouraged to get in touch individually with the respective US universities and colleges (within the above mentioned categories) in order to investigate possibilities of affiliation.  Communication with these US universities and colleges will be an initiative carried out by the Romanian scholar exclusively. A list of the recent SIR Awarded US institutions is available at:
