“From the Personal Story to the Application Essay” Workshop @FEAC-EducationUSA

On Tuesday, March 3rd, 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., the Fulbright Educational Advising Center-EducationUSA hosted a special workshop titled “From the Personal Story to the Application Essay”, given by Fulbright Alumna Simina Mistreanu, a journalist with eight years’ experience in the field, in Romania and the U.S. alike.
During the workshop, Simina guided the participants through the stages of the writing process, from tapping into the lode of one’s personal story (through effective brainstorming) to drawing and shaping it into an honest and well-wrought essay.
The 15 participants, both prospective undergraduate and graduate applicants, had a chance to acquaint themselves with different types of structures, looking at successful application essays written by their peers, and to get some practice, designed to help them start working on their own essays.
The workshop concluded with a Q&A session, in which Simina kindly took questions from the participants, providing them with valuable information and insider’s tips on storytelling, writing and the application process in general.
If you didn’t get to book a spot for this workshop, join us on March 24, from 5:30 p.m., when Simina will be, once again, our guest at FEAC-EducationUSA. Her presentation on March 24, titled “Romanian Citizen, U.S. Journalist: Opportunities in American Campuses and Newsrooms”, will focus on her experience as a Junior Fulbright grantee and M.A. student at the world-prestigious Missouri School of Journalism at the University of Missouri-Columbia and her time working for American newspapers The Oregonian, Columbia Missourian and The Wichita Eagle.
