Opening of the Academic Year at the Center for American Studies, University of Bucharest

On the 1st of October, the Romanian-U.S. Fulbright Commission was invited to the opening of the academic year for the undergraduate and graduate American Studies Programs at the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures, University of Bucharest. Among the invited speakers were: Ms. Marjorie Stern, Cultural Attaché at the U.S. Embassy, Prof. Rodica Mihaila, Executive Director of the Romanian-U.S. Fulbright Commission, Dr. Roxana Oltean, Head of the American Studies Graduate Program, Ms. Laura Silvas, American Studies program alumna and Irina Nitu from the American Corner in Bucharest. The host of the ceremony was Prof. Octavian Roske,

Director of the Center for American Studies. Prof. Mihaila spoke about the Commission’s role in consolidating the American Studies program at the University of Bucharest. Apart from the Romanian Fulbright alumni teaching in the program and some former and current interns at the Commission, present at the event were also two new U.S. Fulbright grantees affiliated with American Studies: Prof. Thomas Cousineau and Jamie Weaver.
