20th Anniversary of the Romanian-U.S. Fulbright Commission

Aniversare1On May 30 the Romanian-U.S. Fulbright Commission celebrated its 20th anniversary among distinguished friends, elite educators, and staunch supporters. The anniversary brought together a comprehensive range of experts in all fields who have taken part in the exchange program over the years or who have acted as stakeholders and supporters of the well-loved program. The ceremony attracted ministers, rectors, diplomats, and CEOs alongside U.S. and Romanian  grantees, alumni and  academia dedicated to educational exchanges.

The morning celebration was hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in its imposing Gafencu Hall and opened with welcome addresses from Mr. Radu Podgorean, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Mr. David Morris, acting Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy, addresses from Mr. Remus Pricopie, Minister of National Education, and Mr. Daniel Visoiu,Aniversare4 President of the Fulbright Board of Directors. Professor Radu Florescu, Emeritus Professor of History at Boston College, U.S. Fulbright grantee to Romania back in 1968, and a sponsor of the event, offered a much-appreciated historic insight into the Fulbright program. Thirteen Fulbright alumni from leading Romanian universities were awarded the title of ”Fulbright Ambassador”. The morning festivity included also a panel in which Romanian and American top-level academics and emerging scholars reflected, side by side, on the Fulbright Program’s impact in promoting excellence and diversity.

In the evening, Mr. Duane C. Butcher, Charge d’Affaires, hosted a reception at the US Ambassador’s residence. The reception was rendered even more memorable by the artistic tribute paid to the Fulbright Commission by the elite musical group “Studioul de muzica veche” who performed in honor of the event.
